Full biography
Wil Cheung FRAS is an astronomer, photographer and one of the UK’s most experienced aurora chasers, having witnessed more than 430 aurora displays across the UK, Arctic and beyond. A Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, Wil is known for making astronomy accessible, entertaining and inspiring for audiences of all ages.
Over the last decade, Wil has become one of the UK’s most recognisable astronomy communicators, combining science, storytelling and spectacular imagery from expeditions around the world. His work and expertise have featured on BBC One’s The One Show, ITV News, BBC Travel, Forbes and numerous national media outlets.
Wil regularly speaks at astronomical societies, theatres, festivals, schools and major public events, delivering talks that range from beginner-friendly introductions to the night sky through to deep dives into aurora science, eclipse chasing, space weather and astrophotography. His presentations blend science with real-world adventure, sharing stories from Arctic expeditions, remote observatories, total solar eclipses and hundreds of nights spent beneath the stars.
Alongside public speaking, Wil leads international astronomy tours and cruises, hosts workshops and runs one of the UK’s largest astronomy communities online, helping hundreds of thousands of people connect with the night sky.
