Full biography
For 35 years Kevin was a professional research mathematician at a number of UK universities. During this time he was continually active in mathematics and science public engagement (“outreach”) through a variety of mediums including television shows, museum exhibitions, workshops and public presentations. Although Kevin is retired from the university sector he continues to be active in outreach projects including giving his presentations on “space exploration”.
His space exploration presentations are suitable for a general public audience and have been given many times to tens of thousands of people. Various types of organizations have invited Kevin to give his presentations (both in the UK and abroad) including, Museums (eg National Museum of Mathematics USA), Societies (eg Liverpool Astronomy Society), Science Festivals (eg Lancashire Science Festival), Institutes (eg Institute of Physics, London), Conferences (eg IAPS, keynote speaker) and Social Groups (eg U3A, Tamworth).
Kevin has several titles in his space exploration presentation series, however, as a “first taste” he recommends “Rocket to The Moon” (about why and how humans landed on the Moon). This show forms the first part of a natural trilogy, the second being “Apollo 13: Lucky for Some?” (the true story of the Apollo 13 mission) and third “Mission to Mars in 3D” (looking at what it takes for humans to travel to Mars).
For all these presentations the audience get an immersive experience which is a cross between a live theatre and a cinema event, so the venue needs to have the capability to project the audio and visual aspects of a PowerPoint file on a laptop.
