Full biography

Gaz Lawrence (he/him) is an interdisciplinary artist, STEAM communicator and stand-up comedian from Bristol, UK. Since studying Biochemistry with a module in Music Technology, Gaz has been passionate about finding the links between disciplines. As an artist, Gaz works with scientists to create artworks and exhibitions that explores the intersection between art and science. He has recently received funding from Arts Council England to develop his creative practice. Oxford astrophysicist, Dr Sebastian Von Hausegger has been one of Gaz's key collaborators since 2023. Together they have created a series of talks, workshops and artworks called The Art of Astrophysics. As well as integrating the arts into science, this workshop series also highlights the impact of the LGBT+ community on modern astronomy.

Gaz has 8 years’ experience of being a science teacher (chemistry specialist) in state secondary schools in the UK. While he still teaches and mentors on a teacher training program, his main focus since leaving teaching in July 2023, is The MoSAIC (The Museum of Science, the Arts & Interdisciplinary Collaboration) an online learning business he founded aimed at providing learners of all ages and educators with tools to explore how the arts can help communicate cutting-edge science and to demonstrate the power of cross-curricular learning and technology in education. Gaz’s main goal is to work with universities and industries to show young people, particularly those who have experienced disadvantage, how creativity is a necessary skill for the STEM fields by integrating the arts into STEAM learning. Gaz's skills as a comedian make for engaging and thought provoking talks that help people of all ages to see the universe from a new perspective.
