Former Chief Scientist at UK Space Agency and lifetime amateur astronomer. Now retired, I use Electronic Assisted Astronomy in my back garden to tour the Universe.
Full biography
40+ years working in the Space sector after obtaining degrees in Astrophysics and Space Science and Exploration from University of Leicester. Laterally was Chief Scientist at the UK Space Agency before retiring in 2020. Now a consultant to the space community. A lifelong amateur astronomer. Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and a Fellow of the British Interplanetary Society. Chair of Thornbury u3a Astronomy and Space Group.

Touring the Universe from a Backgarden
Using an 8” SCT and modern “goto” electronics and software i now tour our neighbourhood of the Universe and its more distance reaches. I describe my basic setup and what can be reasonably expected for those considering short duration imaging with a large scope (total 30-45mins per target) before describing some of the sights i encounter on my journey back in time…
