Full biography
I am Head of Geography and Environment at Northumbria University, Director of the NERC Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling, and Principal Scientific Advisor to the European Space Agency’s CryoSat mission. I also co-lead the ESA–NASA Ice Sheet Mass Balance Inter-comparison Exercise and contribute to IPCC assessment reports.
My research uses satellites to study Earth’s climate, focusing on radar altimetry of the cryosphere. I have led field campaigns across Europe, Africa, the Arctic, and Antarctica, and previously held academic posts at UCL and the Universities of Cambridge, Edinburgh, and Leeds.
