Solar eclipse August 2026
On the evening of 12 August 2026, people across the UK will be able to witness one of the most impressive astronomical events of the decade: a deep partial solar eclipse. Although the path of totality will pass elsewhere, observers throughout the UK will see the Moon cover up to 90% of the Sun, creating a dramatic spectacle in the late afternoon and evening sky.
The eclipse presents a fantastic opportunity for families, schools, astronomy clubs and community groups to experience the wonder of astronomy together. To help the UK astronomy community promote the event and encourage safe public observing, a dedicated resource website has been created UK Eclipse, featuring information, resources and guidance for organisers and eclipse watchers alike.
